 The former director of the Information and Security Service (ISS), Valeriu Pasat, will launch the first two books of the anthology “Orthodoxy in Moldova. Power, Church and Church-goers”, DECA-press informs.
The first book is related to the period of 1940-1953, and the second one –1953-1960. The works contain special archive information regarding the history of Orthodox Church in Moldova in the Soviet period of time.
The Secretary of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova, Metropolitan Vadim Cheibas, said for DECA-press “the works made by Pasat are extremely important for our Church, as such surveys have not been made in our country so far”.
The first two books written in Russian language were printed at one of the Moscow Printing Houses in 1200 copies. In May, other two books of the same anthology may be launched. The will be related mainly to the period before 1990, the Secretary of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova specified.
Valeriu Pasat’s books will be launched on February 9, at the Metropolitan Church of Chisinau.
Valeriu Pasat (51 years old) graduated from the Faculty of History of Moldova State University. He has PhD degree in History. He is a member correspondent of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He was Minister of Defense, as well as director of ISS. In 2005, Pasat was arrested and condemned to prison for having sold MiG-29 aircrafts in 1997, when he was still working as Minister of Defense. Valeriu Pasat stated he was innocent. He said the dossier had a political character and it was opened at the communist governance’s order. |
